New Kinda Science Art  more ->

While reading the book A New Kind of Science by S. Wolfram, I decided to write some web pages in ASP to generate some cellular automata art patterns like the book shows. If you want more info on the book...www.wolframscience.com

I have written two pages to generate black and white art. One. Two. The second one takes longer to generate a more detailed picture. So I suggest playing with the first one until you find a rule you'd like to see on the second one.

Example of b/w rule 30 and rule 90

Extra!
Try one of the new pages to set the rules to generate arrow patterns or art patterns created with a ONE block that has been rotated clockwise 90 degrees to each of 4 possible orientations.

I have got direct links below to some patterns for you to see!

After looking at this for a while, like the red/white versions best.

Some have art from a small portion of a Georgia O'Keefe painting and some have a simple half red and half white diagonal block . The rules (unfortunately) use 64 settings...which take some time to enter so if you just want to see patterns and not play with the generation of your own patterns from rules you enter then try the links below. I think the red/white versions are the most striking.

Note: All of the patterns begin with a row of blocks all the same orientation except the center one which is turned clockwise 90 degrees. Each new row is formed by applying the rule to the row of blocks above it.

There are several "repeating" rules I have tried with pleasing visual results.

NEW! Try (12300321) red/white version or art version repeating.

Try (12120303021213030) art version or red/white version repeating.

Or try (0101323210102323) art version or red/white version repeating.

Or (10102323) art version or red/white version repeating.

Or (12120303) art version or red/white repeating.

Or try (232101) arrow version , art version OR red/white repeating.

Rule:
(01010101)
(23232323)
(10101010)
(32323232)
repeat!
art version
red/white version
arrow version

Rule:
[31232103]
[21232102]
[11132101]
[01232100]
[31232103]
[21232102]
[11132101]
[01232100]
 art version
 red/white version

Rule:
[12020202]
[33112311]
[02020002]
[33112311]
[20202202]
[33113311]
[02020202]
[33112312]
red/white version

For something (pretty random) completely different try:
[232101323010] repeat!
arrow version
art version
red/white version
